Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Recycling

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) often ends up in landfill but it's 100% recyclable.

As one of the UK’s leading EPS polystyrene recyclers, Regenthill offers specialist expanded polystyrene recycling solutions for commercial, industrial, and individual clients. Whether loose or compacted, EPS can be fully recycled and repurposed – helping you reduce landfill waste, meet sustainability targets, and maximise the value of your waste materials.

What is EPS?

EPS is a rigid, closed-cell, thermoplastic foam made from solid beads of polystyrene and expanded with a gas such as pentane. According to the British Plastics Federation, EPS consists of 98% air, making it one of the lightest packaging materials available.

Key properties of EPS:

  • Waterproof and insoluble

  • Chemically inert and non-toxic

  • High impact resistance

  • Long-term thermal stability

  • Non-hygroscopic (doesn’t absorb moisture)

These unique characteristics make EPS ideal for packaging, insulation, and protective applications – but also challenging to dispose of responsibly without the right infrastructure.

How is EPS Recycled?

Despite being 100% recyclable, EPS recycling in the UK remains limited – most local authorities do not offer curbside EPS collection. Because it is so lightweight and bulky, it's often discarded with general waste and sent to landfill.

At Regenthill, we bridge this gap by offering a reliable route for expanded polystyrene recycling at scale.
